The N3 passes right through Warden on the route between Johannesburg and Durban, just north of Harrismith. It is thus more-often-than-not used as a hallmark stop to fill up with petrol, and a burger and chips at the one-stop shop.

The Room Next Door BnB
The Room Next Door is a comfortable semi self-catering unit with its own entrance, situated in the small town of Warden. Warden is located in the Free State province of South Africa on the N3 highway between Johannesburg and Durban.

This open-plan unit consists of a double bed, an en-suite bathroom, a small kitchenette and a seating area with a TV. There is a lovely patio area with braai facilities and a water feature for a relaxing afternoon. Laundry facilities can be arranged on request.

Warden has one of the largest sandstone Dutch Reformed Churches in South Africa, built in 1917 and
seating up to 1750 people. The many marshes in the area offer sanctuary to a variety of aquatic birds. The beautiful cosmos wild flowers grace the countryside with their colourful presence during the autumn months.

Vreugde Gasteplaas
Vreugde Gasteplaas offers comfortable self-catering accommodation, surrounded by picturesque scenery, centrally located in the eastern Free State between the towns of Warden and Bethlehem.

Accommodation consists of either single, double or family rooms, dormitories and a two bedroom house. Some of the rooms and the house are located away from the facilities, providing adequate peace and privacy. The bigger double and family rooms and dormitories are part of the complex in an octagon building, each leading out to the sunny courtyard. All the rooms, except for the dormitories are equipped with a small kitchenette with just the minimal essentials, no cooking utensils. A two-plate hob, pots and pans are available in a communal area. All the rooms have private entrances and access to braai facilities. Remember to bring charcoal and firelighters for a braai. Meals can also be provided on prior arrangement. The dormitories can accommodate up to 20 guests each and have access to two shared bathroom facilities. Regrettably no pets are allowed.

Vreugde Gasteplaas is also ideal for church camps, training, team building, and conferences. This modern, neat and functional facilities are mainly housed in the octagon building with a courtyard, chapel/hall, dining hall, kitchen, separate scullery and ablution facilities.

There are a variety of activities in the area for guests to enjoy, such as white-water river rafting, mountain climbing, abseiling, game viewing, and quad bike tours and trails. Clarens, Golden Gate Highlands National Park, Sterkfontein-Dam Nature Reserve, Verkykerskop, and the Northern Drakensberg are all located in the vicinity of a 100 km from the farm, convenient for day trips. A worthwhile visit to the less familiar places of interest that have a fascinating history like Rensburgkop at Swinburne and The Lost Valley near Geluksburg is recommended.
